About Heather

Heather Reed

I am a qualified counsellor/psychotherapist trained to degree level and currently studying for a Masters Degree. I have experience of working for the voluntary and statutory sector offering one-to one and group therapy to adults of all ages. Alongside my private practice I continue to work for a charity. I have experience of offering therapy to men and women with a range of issues including but not limited to: anxiety and panic, stress, depression, anger, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, loss, bereavement, childhood abuse, domestic abuse and sexual violence.

My Approach

I acknowledge embarking on therapy can be daunting, but it can also be rewarding. It takes courage to explore the issues affecting your life and it is my aim to provide you with this opportunity, in an environment where there are no judgements and no right or wrong ways of coping. A space where you can feel heard and accepted, where we can work collaboratively to explore and improve your general wellbeing.

I am an experienced Cognitive Behaviour Therapist (CBT), an approach that is recommended by the National Institute of Health and Care Excellence and predominantly used in the NHS. This style of therapy can be particularly beneficial in treating depression, anger and anxiety related issues with extensive research evidence to highlight its effectiveness.  However, in my experience there is no one therapy that suits everybody, so my approach is flexible and client centred incorporating a range of methods and skills to suit your needs and goals.

I believe that the key to a successful therapeutic outcome is a genuine, warm and respectful relationship between client and therapist.  I prefer to work collaboratively, to explore what your challenges are, to make sense of your situation before we jointly find a way forward. I work at your pace offering both short and long- term therapy with regular reviews to ensure your expectations are being met.
